Before coming to the Bar, Nicola enjoyed a long career as an academic lawyer.  She graduated from the University of Exeter in 1992 with a First Class Degree in Law and in 1998 with a PhD in Law.  She was a Lecturer in Law at the University of Exeter from 1992-2004 and has been a Senior Lecturer in Law at the University of Plymouth since 2004.  Nicola now teaches family law at undergraduate level and on the Legal Practice Course.  Nicola has published widely in the field of Intellectual Property Law.  In July 2007 Nicola successfully completed the Bar Vocational Course, being graded ‘outstanding’ overall.  She is a member of Gray’s Inn and was awarded the Gray’s Inn Prince of Wales Scholarship in 2006.  Since coming to the Bar Nicola has practiced in a wide variety of fields but now specialises in family law proceedings.

Nicola accepts instructions in all areas of family law:
In public law proceedings she regularly acts for Local Authorities, Guardians, parents and grandparents.  Nicola has significant experience of representing parents in emergency public law applications in respect of their children.
In private law proceedings Nicola regularly acts in parental disputes over children, non-molestation and occupation applications, ancillary relief claims and TLATA claims.

Vehicle and Operator Services Agency v Hobbs [2010] All ER (D) 51 (Feb)
June 2010 – Successful claim for disability discrimination and constructive dismissal against Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust winning in excess of £100,000 for the Claimant.
